Playment: GT Studio Sign-Up Page

INTERFACE DESIGN • ILLUSTRATION • USER EXPERIENCE

INTRODUCTION

Playment, a data labelling platform, had an abstract sense of brand, its look and feel; it lacked consistency and followed a quite heavy illustration style which did not communicate Playment’s offerings with clarity and effectiveness

While not deviating much from the existing brand look, I was given the task of redesigning Playment’s GT Studio sign-in page. As a 2D/3D annotation tool and a platform to manage labelling teams of any size with team management software, all in one place, we wanted to communicate our distinguishing features through it.

MY ROLE

Iterating with different illustration styles, introducing new color palettes and brand guidelines

MY ROLE

CHALLENGES OF THE EXISTING DESIGNS

• The exciting illustration was only AV (Autonomous Vehicles) focused. It didn’t explore the scope of areas Playment catered to.

• It didn’t reflect what Playment does.

IDEATION- PHASE 1

For initial concepts, I explored 3 main iteration explorations.

• A minimal, easy to understand visual to show various annotation tools.
• A landscape composition to showcase the industries we cater to and the variety of data that can be labelled with different tools.
• A process oriented illustration; to showcase Payment’s various offerings and support at every step of the project.

As Playment specialised in pixel perfect annotations, we particularly wanted it to highlight it through our designs. We took forward two designs and discussed the pros and cons of each.

SCALING DOWN

After 2 rounds of feedback, we tweaked the concepts to keep only important elements.

We wanted to keep it minimal yet contextual.

DARK MODE? LIGHT MODE?

After signing up, the users are taken to the management dashboard which is light in color. To maintain visual uniformity in the journey, we chose to go ahead with the light colored illustration.

COLORS AND DIMENTIONS

We didn't want the illustration to be overpowering as the main aim of the page was signing up. We tried several background colors and illustration dimensions.

FINAL DESIGNS

We didn't want the illustration to be overpowering as the main aim of the page was signing up. We tried several background colors and illustration dimensions.

LEARNINGS AND REFLECTIONS

• COMMUNICATING MY DESIGNS
The biggest challenge I faced was communicating my visions properly to the non- design team members in the earlier stages of the project. It took me a while to understand what they understood!

• DETAILS THAT MATTER
While annotating elements in the illustration, in the beginning I didn't understand the fuss behind why all the elements needed to be realistically marked. Now I realise that Playment’s biggest selling point was Pixel perfect annotations!

• “HOW TO MAKE AN APPLE LOOK PROFESSIONAL?”
While exploring illustration styles, we wanted something cool yet trustworthy. New yet familiar. In the quest, I found myself scratching my head about how to make an apple look trustworthy and professional!
